The Roanoke Slant · Roanoke Times Jihad Against Va AG Cuccinelli RSS Comment Feed Bookmark on del.icio.us

-
Roanoke Times, 9-1-10, Pg 1 & 16: Front Page: Cuccinelli rebuked on getting information from UVa. Pg 16: Editorial: Judge shoots down Cuccinelli.
Small print: The Judge said indeed the AG can investigate fraud, but first he must show some evidence of a crime in the UVA climate witch hunt.
-
The Va AG request for information from UVa:
Whoa there Cuccinelli – stop your court action to get data from UVa.
We liberals wouldn’t want the public to see the basis for Prof Mann to get millions of dollars of taxpayer money to pursue the Gore-Hypothesis and its predetermined-science-outcomes. Forget all that open-government and transparency stuff we constantly throw at folks and issues we oppose – this is different!

The Cap&Tax challenge:
Whoa there Cuccinelli – stop explaining to the public the impacts of Cap&Tax on utility bills.
We liberals are looking forward to government mandated massive increases in the cost of all energy related products and services and the resulting loss in jobs. We will use our liberal-progressive-media to hammer the utilities and manufacturing and service industries as the villains for price increases and direct the public’s attention away from the real cause. After all, somehow, it must be Bush’s fault anyway.

The ObamaCare personal mandates:
Whoa there Cuccinelli – . Stop your lawsuits against the federal government in support of a bipartisan Virginia law that prohibits individuals to be forced by law to buy ObamaCare products.
We liberals are pleased that ObamaCare mandates each American business and person to comply with its demands, costs, bureaucracy and enforcement by the IRS. After all, personal responsibility was just a fad and socialism is a much better method of managing and directing the masses. Haven’t you ever read Karl Marx?

Christ & Christmas:
Roanoke Times, Editorial, 9-3-10, Pg 13: A church-state minefield. Localities shouldn’t take Cuccinelli’s opinion on Christmas displays as a green light. Officials who want to “put the Christ back in Christmas” should hire a lawyer.
-
Whoa there Cuccinelli – We progressive-liberals know this country wasn’t founded by people who placed God above all else. This was a secular country founded by atheists and agnostics. Ignore all those prayers, emblems, icons, crosses and that thing about being “created equal” by a supreme entity. That’s all revisionist history propagated by those evil bible-banging folks in Lynchburg.

The Abortion Clinic Cleanliness Initiative
Whoa there Cuccinelli – Stop demanding that abortion clinics meet the same standards of cleanliness that other outpatient facilities must meet including inspections to ensure medical standards are being met.
We liberals don’t worry about abortion facilities meeting medical standards as long as they get the job done.

The Roanoke Slant · Obama’s Mosque at Ground Zero - Christians Need Not Apply RSS Comment Feed Bookmark on del.icio.us

-
Roanoke Times, 8-14-10, Pg 4: Obama speaks out in favor of mosque. Obama on (Friday Aug 13th) forcefully endorsed building a mosque near Ground Zero saying the country’s founding principles demanded no less. These comments were made at an annual dinner in the White House State Dining Room celebrating the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.
-
Roanoke Times, 8-15-10, Pg 1: Obama reaffirms freedoms of Muslims – did not say whether he thought building a mosque near Ground Zero was a good idea.
-
On Saturday Obama the Virtual-Muslim is totally and completely in support of the 911 Mosque --- On Sunday – Not so Much!
-
Once again the Roanoke Times Editors fulfilled their obligation to King-Obama to misrepresent the Obama position on the Ground Zero Mosque.
Obama's enthusiastic endorsement of the mosque in front of his Islamic brothers at a White House dinner did not sit well with most Americans and his Democrat buddies who are running for reelection were not pleased.
-
What a great example of editorial and journalistic amnesia. Talk about your short-term memory loss and blind obedience to Obama-dogma.

New York City and it's Port Authority have refused to allow Greek Orthodox Leaders to Rebuild Their Church Destroyed on 9/11!
Didn't Obama and Greenburg just state that the government shouldn't preclude a church from being built because of the seperation of church and state?
-
Greek Orthodox leaders who have been trying to rebuild the only church destroyed in the Sept. 11 terror attacks expressed shock this week after learning, via Fox News, that government officials had killed a deal to relocate the church.
-
The St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church, once a tiny, four-story building in the shadows of lower Manhattan, was destroyed in 2001 by one of the falling World Trade Center towers. Nobody from the church was hurt in the attack, but the congregation has, for the past eight years, been trying to rebuild its house of worship.

The Roanoke Slant · Shrimp Fishing Welfare RSS Comment Feed Bookmark on del.icio.us

-
Roanoke Times, 8-17-10, Pg 1: Shrimp season opens in Louisiana.
Federal officials said it was safe. They had allowed states to reopen harvest areas, they said, only after tests on fish and shrimp showed no signs of oil or dispersant. In fact, federal officials said, they did not turn up a single piece of seafood that was unsafe to eat --- even at the height of the BP’s oil spill.
-
I couldn’t believe this! So I checked another source:
http://news.gather.com/viewArticle.action?articleId=281474978450601
Shrimping Season Starts, But Few Boats Set Sail August 17, 2010 01:29 PM EDT Yesterday (Aug 16th) marked the start of Louisiana's shrimping season, but few boats took to the waters.
-
All the pictures and first-hand interviews of shrimp boats tied-up at the piers because of the BP spill is now clearly a huge pile of heifer dust!
The season was closed due to normal seasonal marine controls already in-place.
-
I didn’t shoot any deer last week – there were lots in my yard eating my flowers. I didn’t shoot because the season is closed! Unfortunately I didn’t get paid for not shooting them; certainly would have helped augment my fixed modest-income!
-
Of course few boats went out – they’re all on BP-welfare!
Would you go out and work at very hard-work when BP is committed to pay you to stay tied up at the dock?
And the revelation that there has NOT BEEN ANY seafood contamination since the spill began raises the ugly specter of gross malfeasance by the federal government in a conspiracy to scare the hell out of millions of Americans without due diligence and scientific basis.
Wasn’t the Obama commitment that they would put science before politics?
So much for yet another gross false Obama premise!

The Roanoke Slant · Roanoke Times Embraces Islam; Christianity Not So Much RSS Comment Feed Bookmark on del.icio.us

-
Roanoke Times, 8-22-10:
Pg 1: Flap tests commitment to tolerance; The mosque debate reveals Americans’ level of religious acceptance.
Pg 1 & 4, Horizon: America’s battle is not with Islam; and Religious liberty for all – or none.
-
For a group of people who cannot find a good word to say for Christianity when atheists and the ACLU attack every symbol of Christianity, including hammering the Boy Scouts because God is in their oath, they certainly have decided that their Virtual-Muslim President and his Muslim associates deserve total and complete dogmatic support. They sure killed a lot of good trees for this one!
-
Their views have been that the nasty and vile anti-Christ cartoons at VT were a wonderful expression of a first amendment exercise and Christ in a bottle of urine on display at the Washington JFK Art Center brought artistic creativity to a whole new and wonderful level.
The editors of the Roanoke Times canonized William & Mary president, Gene Nichol, who arrogantly and unilaterally removed the Christian Cross from the W&M Chapel that had been there in the Chapel for 314 years.
Their paper and this blog are overflowing with examples of their support for every anti-Christian issue that surfaces.
-
However, now the liberal-progressive initiative is: let’s use Religious Tolerance to force Religious Acceptance including any and all activities and behaviors. That would include:
Muslim Sharia law and the associated Madrasas that are integrated within the Muslim society.
Islam is not just a Religion – it is a dogmatic Government System that controls its subjects through Sharia Law with unbelievably harsh penalties and restrictions on all aspects of life. One would think the editorial girls at the Roanoke Times would be totally repulsed at the fate of women in that system. Apparently not!
-
No mention here about Reciprocity or the fact that this group of people harbor and support our enemies that have declared war upon us and have killed and are killing our people and our friends.
Where are the Islamic rejections of the Radicals and what are their programs to marginalize and then systematically eliminate them?
How many cathedrals and synagogues have they allowed in Mecca?
What steps are being taken by Muslims to embrace other faiths and show tolerance for other beliefs?
Are they still trying to find and kill Salman Rushdie and the cartoonists who drew images of Mohammad?
Have they rejected (canceled) the Jihad that has been launched against us?
-
We all have an obligation as Christians and Americans to tolerate all humane and decent people and behaviors.
However, we not only have the right, but an obligation, to not accept bad behaviors and those who practice them.
There can be a very valid and vast chasm between Tolerance and Acceptance.
This concept is something that we all should recognize lest we all move down to the lowest common denominator of behavior.
-
I find the liberal-progressive bias of the Editors of the Roanoke Times to be inconsistent with their obligations to be proper American news people. I tolerate them and their behaviors, but I do NOT accept them!
As Americans, we can still do that (so far anyway)!

Roanoke Times, 8-11-2010, Pg 6: US paying “Tax-dollars” for Imam to speak abroad.
-
Once again the Editors of the Roanoke Times take a gross and obnoxious action by Obama and sugar-coat it in small print in an innocuous location. What are friends for if not for this?
What would this story have looked and read like if Rev. Pat Robinson were being sent on political junkets around the world, at taxpayer’s expense, by Bush’s State Dept.?
-
Are we not purging every vestige of Christianity that the ACLU and their associates can find under the guise of separation of church and state while Obama is using tax-dollars to send an Imam on political trips around the world?
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2010/02/obamas-muslim-political-correctness.html
These actions are in harmony with the Roanoke Times Editors openly mocking Christianity!
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2005/08/mocking-religion.html
However, there seems to be a careful selection of who not to mock:
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2006/02/mocking-muhammad-and-jesus_06.html
-
These tax dollars are in support of religious activity by a group that has untold wealth and that has harbored those who have declared war upon us and killed thousands of our people.
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2009/06/inconvenient-terrorist-attack.html
-
This is the same Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf that is building the $100 MILLON dollar mosque adjacent to the site of the World Trade Center in NYC!
http://abcnews.go.com/US/mosque-plan-clears-hurdle-protests/story?id=10747570
Apparently $100,000,000 will wallpaper over the 9-11 WTC scars and obscure the images of the 3,000 people who were murdered there. The Imam refuses to disclose the source of the 100 Million Dollars. So much for the Obama transparency thing!
-
And what about Reciprocity? As Obama “the groveller in-chief” bows to those who harbor and support our enemies, one wonders “have they reached out to us in any way at all”?
How many cathedrals and synagogues are in Mecca? What steps are being taken by Muslims to embrace other faiths and show tolerance for other beliefs? Are they still trying to find and kill Salman Rushdie and the cartoonists who drew images of Mohammad?

In reading all the flowery and idyllic prose about Chelsea’s wedding, I somehow missed what would have been highlighted for Jenna’s low key semi-private one hundred thousand dollar wedding, IF her wedding contained the same circumstance with a similar set of character issues! What a roasting and tar and feather party the liberal media would have conducted! It would have been Sara and family raised to a new level!
-
The impeached and discredited father of the bride said he was going to have difficulty not crying. Can you imaging what the Editors of the Roanoke Times would have done with this morsel?
-
The father of the groom, a disgraced and criminally convicted Democrat Congressman, had just completed five years of federal incarceration for official misconduct. Not clear if he wore stripes but I’m sure the Roanoke Times’ favorite cartoonist would have had a field day with this one if the father-in-law were a Republican!
-
The Two Million Plus dollar wedding, much of which was at taxpayer security expense, was an obscene Democrat spectacle given the current recession, 10+% unemployment rate and highlighted by one thousand home foreclosures per week.
-
All we needed was for Hillary to tell the unemployed multitudes that “they should go eat cake”!
-
Exactly how far will the liberal-progressive Pravda media go to prop-up and support their liberal friends and white-wash over their obscene behavior?

The Roanoke Slant · Where’s Obama’s NATO-International Coalition? RSS Comment Feed Bookmark on del.icio.us

-
Obama, the Democrats and their liberal media associates hammered Bush for years about the limited international military commitments to Iraq and Afghanistan. In May 2006 Bush secured the NATO commitment to take over responsibility for Afghanistan thereby allowing us to reduce the US force by 19,000 and become a secondary participant.
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2006/05/nato-responsible-for-afghanistan.html
-
Enter Obama the Muller-In-Chief Jan 2009! For the first nine months of 2009 he proclaimed to our troops and the world that “we don’t have a strategy in Afghanistan” and he is trying to find one. Why didn’t he make good on his claim to be the pied-piper of international cooperation and get NATO to fulfill their Afghanistan responsibilities while we completed our responsibilities in Iraq?
Why didn’t he use his self-professed personal powers to bring international nations together to solve world problems in Afghanistan and limit the US obligations?
If NATO is not up to the job, why didn’t Obama say so and “convince” them to live up to their commitments and responsibilities?
-
And now, under Obama’s nose, the Dutch are packing up and going home, and the liberal media is so quiet you can hear the notes fall due down at the banks.
Where is the hue and cry about forging and maintaining international coalitions?
After all the Obama trips, meetings, bowing and prostrating himself before the international community, where is there any improvement in the world view or actions relative to America or world order commitments?

BBC Aug 1, 2010: The Netherlands has ended its military mission in Afghanistan, after four years in which its 1,950 troops have won praise for their effectiveness. Dutch military chief Gen Peter van Uhm said security had improved in Uruzgan province during the Dutch deployment. But he acknowledged that "a lot still has to happen" after the withdrawal.
Nato has played down its significance, but analysts say this is a sensitive time for the alliance, with growing casualties and doubts about strategy.

The Roanoke Slant · Liberal Media Investigative Reporters Silent RSS Comment Feed Bookmark on del.icio.us

-
The Liberal-Progressive Media has demonstrated impressive investigative capabilities over the years.
Within a week of Sara Palin being named a VP candidate there were over 100 investigative reporters in her home town of about 300 residents. The resulting volumes of published anecdotal stories and rumors and speculation were awesome.
-
However – these same news people appear to be unable to duplicate that feat for their favorite son, Obama, who has been in office for over a year and a half now and this same press:
Still cannot find any of his childhood friends or neighbors; or
Find Obama’s real Birth Certificate; or
Locate any of Obama’s college papers or grades; or
Figure out how he paid for a Harvard education; or
Find which country issued his visa to travel to Pakistan in the 1980's; or
Decipher Barry Soretoros / Barack Obama’s myriad of Social Security numbers; or
Even produce Michelle Obama’s Princeton thesis on Racism.
-
They just can't seem to find them. Yet the public still trusts that same
press to give them timely and complete and accurate “news”.

Roanoke Times, 8-5-10, Pg 16, Editorial: A minor victory for Cuccinelli; A lawsuit challenging the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) continues its long journey through federal courts.
-
A minor victory indeed! Cuccinelli persevered over Obama’s Federal Dept. of Justice!
Every journey does indeed start with a first step, and hopefully this journey will result in a victory of the Constitution over those who have lost their way.
Also, perhaps this long journey will result in Nancy Pelosi and associates getting the opportunity to read the misguided law they passed!
http://politics.usnews.com/opinion/blogs/peter-roff/2010/03/09/pelosi-pass-health-reform-so-you-can-find-out-whats-in-it.html
-
The Editors of the Roanoke Times have been trying to discredit and marginalize Ken Cuccinelli, for two years.
Some examples of the Roanoke Times yellow-journalism relative to AG Cuccinelli:
-
1. The bare, or not bare, breasted female on the justice shield.
Objective: Let’s paint Cuccinelli as the guy with the pitchfork in “American Gothic”.
http://hamptonroads.com/2010/04/cuccinelli-opts-more-modest-state-seal
-
2. Cuccinelli the radical home privacy invader for selecting a prosecutor who had handled a formal complaint of indecent exposure by a mother and her child.
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2010/08/are-roanoke-times-editorial-girls.html
-
3. Cuccinelli a right-wing extremists for joining other states in challenging ObamaCares mandate (containing personal fines and penalties implemented by the IRS) that requires each American to join an ObamaCare approved health plan.

-
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2010/06/more-obamacare-lies-and-deception.html
-
4. Cuccinelli a man-made global warming denier and Academic-heretic for requesting data from UVa for Prof. Michael Mann’s applications for tax-payer funds to support Gore’s-Hypothesis.
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2010/03/obamas-epas-conflict-with-virginia-ag.html
-
5. Cuccinelli a bigot and somewhat-raciest for joining other states, including Arizona, in challenging the Obama teams position that only the Federal Government can ask people for ID that shows they’re in this country legally.
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2010/07/illegal-immigrant-law-enforcement.html
-
It’s clear that the majority of Virginians approves of and supports AG Cuccinelli’s legal actions on their behalf. This in stark contrast to Democrats Webb, Warner and Perriello who’s actions are consistently not in the best interest of Virginians but instead are in support of the Obama, Pelosi, Reid Obamanation of America.

The real story is that the White House has declared the Crisis over!

The Roanoke Slant · The DNC, GOP & Tea Party RSS Comment Feed Bookmark on del.icio.us

-
Roanoke Times, 8-1-10, Pg Horiz 1: The GOP takes its tea. The tea party movement is rapidly becoming just another faction of the national Republican Party.
-
Apparently this article was published in concert and harmony with Tim Kaine’s DNC major initiative to discredit and denigrate both the GOP and the Tea Party membership. Two birds with one stone, so to speak.
-
Kaine has published HIS Republican Tea Party Contract ON America
http://my.democrats.org/page/content/tpgop
He has also launched a media campaign to promote his definition of the GOP, hoping to convince the undecided and moderate voters that the TeaPartyized GOP is way too radical for their support. This new ad campaign hopes to link the GOP to fringe elements of the Tea Party based on selected statements made by persons identified with the Tea Party. It’s guilt by association that the liberals usually rail against; not this time of course!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJ62T9g_SGI
-
This tactic by the Democrats may have some success. The Tea Party has in many districts become a major and very visible influence on local Republican politics and the behavior and rhetoric of some individuals are cause for political discomfort by moderates and independents and this could make a difference in an off-year election in which the Democrats (the party of the poor) have more than double the campaign funds of the Republicans.
-
A contributor to this situation is that the Tea Party seems to focus on finding candidates for leadership and office who have no significant political history and therefore have not been adequately vetted by political experience and are inexperienced with dealing with the public and media. In many cases they are making statements from the position of being “mad as hell and aren’t going to take it anymore”! Seldom does this frame of reference result in good public outcomes for Republicans. However, it has always worked extremely well for the “fight, fight, fight” democrats of labor and minorities and special interests.
-
An example of the DNC-strategy is the Republican-TeaParty candidate, Ms Angle, to oppose Harry Reid in Nevada. She received one-half million dollars from the National Tea Party Express and an unknown “undercover” amount from the DNC who view her as “most beatable” of the leading GOP primary candidates. She has made numerous inappropriate public statements that have fed directly into the DNC’s playbook and polls and pundits indicate that she will likely loose to Harry Reid, one of the most ardent and powerful supporters of the Obamanation movement.
-
The 8-2-10 Roanoke Times indicates on Pg 1 the stress and panic the DNC (Tim Kaine et al) is experiencing with 65 House seats at some level of risk in November.
The tension is further on display in the Pg 12 Editorial titled: The fringe takes over (the Republican Party).
This begins with a defense of the New Black Panther Party militants at a voting place in which the white house has directly intervened to squash the prosecution of Phila black panther members with weapons who participated in voter intimidation directly in front of a voting place door. Click on the link for great pictures and video of the subjects that the RT Editors view as nice gentlemen who weren’t intimidating anyone. They were just there to vote.
http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/may/29/career-lawyers-overruled-on-voting-case/
-
The editors then get back to the New-DNC-Kaine party line advertisement:
“Republicans have had a hard time isolating the fringe elements of “their” party – perhaps because the fringe is becoming the party”.

All this Roanoke Times stuff is of course just the start of tens of thousands of dollars of free advertising they will do for King Obama and Prince Perriello. Why burn-up campaign funds when your friends in the media have unlimited opportunity to blow your horn and trash you adversaries with no accountability or responsibility or liability. What a deal!

-
Roanoke Times, 8-3-10, Pg 1 & 14: Wonderful positive picture of Obama with headline: Obama casts coming Iraq pullout as an achievement. The White House is eager to tout successes, and the withdrawal was an early campaign promise.
-
And pray tell what was Obama’s contribution to whatever success there has been in Iraq?
Couldn’t find any definitive action he took amongst all the accolades and self-aggrandizement and his obnoxious narcissism.
-
Did Obama not vote against the Iraq Surge that was a pivotal action in the conflict?
Where was that key fact in this flowery liberal press attempt to enhance Obama’s dismal record and eroding public approval (latest polls indicate over 50% of Americans disapprove of him)?
-
Where in this article does Obama state the actions he will take to ensure that Iraq achieves a representative government and that it will be a self-sufficient entity with freedom and human rights for all? After all, isn’t that what liberals, like the editors of the Roanoke Times, stand for and demand both for the Iraqi people and in honor of all who paid such a high price to throw off the yoke of Sadam and his brutal regime?

Roanoke Times, 7-31-10, Pg 9: The attorney general’s (Cuccinelli) latest hire is best known for prosecuting a man for being naked in his home.
-
What a great piece of headline slant and interesting editorial perspective.
-
Apparently the girls are disappointed that a prosecutor would pursue a complaint filed by a mother who on several occasions, while walking her child to school, was upset by a man who exposed himself to her and her child through a public-street-view window.
-
Apparently the “View” of the RT Editorial Girls is that having a man display his wares to women and children visible from the street is socially acceptable behavior and perhaps they would be comfortable if guys in their neighborhood shared their wares with them.
After all, as newspaper girls well know, it pays to advertise!
-
At any rate it’s clear from their headline and article that they object to a prosecutor following up on such a complaint and feel it should have been dropped as a “prevailing local social custom”.
-
So much for old prudes and over-protective mothers who just need to get with our modern times.
Let’s all just sneak-a-peek, smile, and move on.

No RT Editors – that’s not it! Auto industry touted as success (BY) Obama! There’s a very big difference!

Obama, the pseudo-Chairman of GM (Government Motors) and pseudo-President of the UAW enjoyed a meeting in Detroit with his wards of the government and the $60 BILLION dollars of taxpayer money he doled out to them.

-
Exactly where in the Constitution does the President have the power and discretion to sink $60 BILLION tax-dollars into an auto company?
-
Perhaps the founding fathers frowned on that concept because of the adverse negative consequences that would follow like:
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2010/01/obama-gm-ceo-and-major-conflicts-of.html

• Government bureaucrats would be directing corporate actions like the $41,000 Volt-GM-car that the government will massively subsidize because no one will buy it at that price.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/07/27/AR2010072705834.html

• Government bureaucrats would disparage and denigrate competing cars to help promote “their” Government Motors vehicles:

Let's play hide the Toyota good news from the public:

• Government bureaucrats would promote financial lies and cover-ups to mitigate taxpayer dissatisfaction with this misappropriation of tax-dollars.
http://roanokeslant.blogspot.com/2010/04/huge-obama-gm-roll-over.html

• Government bureaucrats would decide based on politics and not economics what dealerships and sourcing channels are to continue to be tax subsidized.

The bottom line is clearly that this administration is pursuing a policy of socialism and greatly expanded government control to the detriment of the free market system and continued development of the free enterprise system that has made this country a world-class leader.
Competition may no longer be politically correct, however it clearly is the best process for development of products and economies and it is consistent with the Constitution!

The Roanoke Slant · The Millimum Plus-10 Gulf Oil Gusher RSS Comment Feed Bookmark on del.icio.us

USA Today 7-28-10, Pg 1: Oil and tourists skip Gulf beaches even though majority of vacation spots declared OK

Roanoke Times, 7-31-10, Pg 5: Focus changing in spill cleanup.
-
Remember the Millimum Bug? The media “shouted” that our entire modern society including all infrastructures was destined to self-destruct midnight New Years Eve 1999/2000.
But it didn’t! Businesses, industries, utilities and government all worked diligently in 1999 and very few problems occurred. Was a lesson learned?
-
Fast forward to 2010 in the Gulf of Mexico. A mile deep oil well blow-out, killed 12 drilling system workers (not a big issue in the major media) and then the escape of 94 to184 million gallons of raw crude flowed into the Gulf.
-
So here we are on July 28 (100 days later) and the USA Today states: “the oil spill has NOT fouled the vast majority of the area’s beaches” and vacationers should come-on-down! We haven’t even had tar balls or anything with hundreds of miles of our beaches” said D.T. Minch of Visit St. Petersburg tourism authority. (Earlier media predicted oil would flow into the Atlantic and foul beaches as far north as Myrtle Beach!)
In Mississippi (A as in one) beach was closed for a week in Hancock County, but others have remained open, some with advisories.
Few beach warnings have been issued in Alabama and Florida and none in Texas.
-
The Roanoke Times Pg 5 story update: A new analysis by the NOAA showed most surface oil in the Gulf had degraded to a thin sheen and beaches in Mississippi, Alabama and the Florida Panhandle will likely not have significant problems.
About 70% of Louisiana waters (the most affected areas) are now open to commercial fishing.
-
The Gulf oil spill is indeed a major issue. Has it been blown out of context? Have millions of dollars in tourist and vacation revenue been scared away unnecessarily?
Is there a lesson here? As Ron Emanuel, Obama’s Chicago main man, has said “let’s not waste a serious crisis”!
However in this crisis case Obama’s got tar-balls on his hands.

The Clinton appointed Arizona judge did her liberal duty and hacked away at Arizona’s duplicate copy of the Federal immigration laws that Obama and associates refuse to enforce. So much for state’s rights and the ability of states and communities to act in the best interests of the health and welfare of their citizens when confronted by massive numbers of illegal infiltrators.

Not found in the Roanoke Times, but published in the San Diego Union-Tribune was a very comprehensive article on Virginia’s unprecedented surge in detentions of illegal immigrants picked up on criminal charges with particular focus on the laws and enforcement in Prince Edward County.
There will be a new 30-acre facility in Farmville in-addition-to the $21 million center in Prince Edward County.
These tax funded facilities are required to manage people who shouldn’t be here in the first place, and would have either been repulsed at the border or been deported if Obama would just enforce the laws he took an oath to enforce.
-
New News 8-2-10:
In a decision that could lay the groundwork for an Arizona-style immigration policy, Virginia's attorney general said state law enforcement officers are allowed to check the immigration status of anyone "stopped or arrested."

Roanoke Times, 7-9-10, Pg 5 & 7: Study says 100 degree heat waves are likely to increase and thousands of people may die – (and it’s your fault for using hydro-carbon fuels and making CO2!).
-
During one of the longest and coldest periods in the Roanoke area, with two months of continuous snow cover and subfreezing temperatures, the Roanoke Times quoted their sources that assured us that “there’s no connection between short term weather and climate”. But now the reason we're having some hot summer days is proof of the Gore Global Warming CO2 hypothesis.
-
Back on Pg 7 there’s some interesting Roanoke record temperature data:
Aug 5, 1930: Roanoke record high: 105 degrees
June 24, 1930 to Sept 3 1930: 14 days of 100+ degrees
July 10, 1936: Roanoke matched the record high again: 105 degrees
-
How do our record high temperatures track against CO2?
-

-
It would also be of interest to reflect on the amount of people, buildings, concrete, blacktop, vehicles and I-581 that have been added to Roanoke since 1930. That begs the question: shouldn't it be a lot hotter now than in 1930?
-
It would be helpful if the liberal media who are promoting the Alarmist-Gore-IPCC-Hypothesis would stop publishing junk-science and stick to the facts and publish all this type data in the historical perspective that we are in a 250 year warming cycle of unknown cause, that started at the end of the little ice age in 1750, and that there is significant amounts of natural variability locally and globally.
Stop propagating the patently false alarmist hype that every daily weather event is a direct result of man-kinds activity. Even the IPCC rejects that tripe!

-
NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said in a recent interview that his "foremost" mission as the head of America's space exploration agency is to improve relations with the Muslim world.
Bolden said in an interview with Al Jazeera that strengthening those ties was among the top tasks President Obama assigned him.
“When I became the NASA administrator -- or before I became the NASA administrator -- he charged me with three things. One was he wanted me to help re-inspire children to want to get into science and math, he wanted me to expand our international relationships, and third, and perhaps foremost, he wanted me to find a way to reach out to the Muslim world and engage much more with dominantly Muslim nations to help them feel good about their historic contribution to science ... and math and engineering," Bolden said in the interview.
-
-
It is difficult to comment on this gross malfeasance of office without using profanity!
The NASA that JFK missioned to send Americans to the moon is now missioned by Obama to suck-up to the people that harbors and supports our enemies who have declared war upon us and killed thousands of Americans and continue to attack us in every way they can.

The Roanoke Slant · Science and Ideology RSS Comment Feed Bookmark on del.icio.us

-
Roanoke Times, 7-4-10, Pg Horiz 1: Not blinded by science, but ideology.
-
The author, Chris Mooney, unsuccessfully tries to make the point that the public is not responding to the scientific community on “selected subjects” because they are either ignorant or ideologs who have an economic or political agenda.
The author further opines that the most egregious nonbelievers are college educated conservatives. His primary example of his political thesis is those really bad global warming Skeptic people.
-
The author clearly doesn’t comprehend that real educated people are Critical Thinkers who are by definition Skeptics! On the other hand, those other educated people who just regurgitate the pabulum offered by many liberal college professors are programmed to repeat back and accept the material served up by the “all knowing” media and so called “experts by consensus.”
-
Perhaps the 30,000+ signers of the Petition Project: http://www.petitionproject.org/
who represent all sectors of science and engineering aren’t ideologs but are instead educated Skeptics who understand earth science, the long-term variability of earths climate and who differentiate between global warming, the effects of greenhouse gases and human activities. Perhaps they are not prone to jump on a “consensus bandwagon” but instead question the real science available from all sources and also question why none of the Alarmists will engage in meaningful technical debate.
The debate forums are available from organizations like Heartland Institute at:
http://www.globalwarmingheartland.org/index.html
-
A key statement included: “the scientists often fail to realize that a more scientifically informed public is not necessarily a public that will more frequently side with scientists.”
Image that! Educated people questioning the thesis being proposed by scientists!
Just how arrogant can this author and his scientific associates be? Apparently things are better for them when there is a population covered by a blanket of ignorance and superstition standing ready to buy the alchemists gold or the medicine man’s elixir.
-
Instead of lamenting and trying to marginalize the Skeptics, why not engage them in open and fair debate on the scientific facts and the uncertainty of the hypothesis of man-made global warming.

How trusting can the “common man” be when even Jon Stewart points out the total lack of creditability and professionalism of the Alarmists?

Roanoke Times, 6-23-10, Pg 1: McChrystal delivering resignation to Obama.
-
The Democrat and White House thrashing machines are in full gear.
How could General McChrystal be disrespectful to Obama, his crown of Chicago hoods and his army of Czars who have been injecting themselves into situations for which they have no Constitutional or Congressional authority or business?
The White House spin is how ungrateful he is! We gave him everything he asked for and made him chief and now he does this!
-
Over a year ago McChrystal asked for 60,000 troops ASAP.
After months of delay Obama agreed to 30,000. (The muller-in-chief)
The 30,000 still aren’t there!
Instead of getting the assets he requested, McChrystal has had to cow-tow to a steady stream of Czars, minions and political hacks who bounce around Kabul and kiss-up to Karzi’s tantrums and empower his corrupt crowd.
-
The height of Obama-team malfeasance is that US troops are directed not to disturb the poppy fields that supply millions of dollars of drug money to the enemy. Obama and Karzi don’t want to upset the farmers and they sure don’t want to stop all the corrupt payoffs going to Karzi and associates.
-
General McChrystal certainly did make one major error.
It was his obligation to resign before Blasting the Obama-team.
As a military General Officer that was his duty and obligation.

-
Apparently Obama is trying to vote “present” on his responsibilities as commander-in-chief as our troops fight and die in a war he declared is the “right war”.
In March Obama replaced the army commander in Afghanistan with his choice and declared that Bush had low-balled that war and his (Obama’s) new strategy would fix yet another Bush mess!
Now, six months later, he proclaims to our troops and the world that “we don’t have a strategy in Afghanistan” and he is trying to find one. His key in-putter is none other than Joe Biden. He’s the guy who demanded two years ago, that we break Iraq into three separate countries! Now he wants to fight the Afghanistan war with drone missiles and much fewer troops than Bush deployed!
This Biden brain-storm was publicly shot-down and discredited by Gen. McChrystal, Obama’s general choice, from whom Obama now refuses to accept his input for the requirements to fight Obama’s March-strategy War!
Can you imagine the Democrat and left-wing media rant if this mess were being done by Bush? Instead, the liberal media tells us this mulling-mess is a good thing! Good for who – our enemies?
What if your son were killed in Afghanistan in a war the president says has no strategy and “will not have a defined mission accomplished”; how would you feel then about our new: CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN!

Roanoke Times, 6-19-10, Pg 14: Obama team monitoring the Internet.
Janet Napolitano says fighting homegrown terrorism by monitoring Internet communications is a civil liberties trade-off that the government must make to beef up national security.
-
This major item buried back in small print on Pg 14 on a weekend!
This monitoring is not just inter-country of suspected bad guys, it is intra-country!
During the Bush years the Roanoke Times and their associates in the liberal press put every Patriot Act activity on the front page in BIG letters bashing Bush for violating The Constitution and our Civil Rights and the ACLU was in court demanding this all be stopped. And Senate Democrats were filing bills of censure against the President.
-
Apparently now the Editors of the Roanoke Times and their associates at the ACLU aren’t concerned about monitoring internal US communications anymore! Apparently it’s not a civil rights or privacy issue if Obama does it! After all, what’s the chance that a bunch of guys from Chicago would use intercepts of private communications for other than legitimate national security protections?
-
The level of Hypocrisy by the Roanoke Times, their associates at the ACLU and the major media in general is very disturbing. There are no checks and balances for Obama; just a continual suckingup to their prince.
Apparently Pravda is alive and well in the US.
-
Just more hope and change we can believe in!

The ACLU sought out Judge Taylor to "hear" the ACLU’s case that the interception of calls between suspected terrorists abroad with persons in the US to be unconstitutional.–The highlight of her learned legal opinion was that:"THERE ARE NO HEREDITARY KINGS IN AMERICA" and that these interceptions are unconstitutional.

Roanoke Times, 6-16-10, Pg 10: Rules put new limits on card companies. The Federal Reserve adopted new rules aimed at protecting credit card customers from getting socked by lofty late payment charges (more than $25) and other penalty fees.
-
What an incredible and gross hypocritical pile of heifer-dust!
-
Want to see late charges, interest and penalties?
Just be late filing and paying your income taxes!
And we’re not talking about $25 !
-
And one of the biggest Government financial-atrocities of all:
The penalties for senior citizens who fail to take the Required Minimum Distribution from their 401’s or IRA’s.
-
THE PENALTY IS 50% (FIFTY PERCENT) !
This is without warning, without notice, without remorse!
-
These draconian and confiscatory penalties are extracted from senior citizens, many of whom may not even be aware or understand or comprehend the requirement to make yearly minimum withdrawals based on a federal table they may not even have.
-
Example: A senior has a $100,000 IRA that is the major asset to his/her retirement that they have accumulated over a life-time of work.
A typical distribution factor (divisor from an IRS table) would be 25.
-
$100,000 / 25 = $4000 the RMD (required minimum distribution)
50% penalty X $4000 = $2000 penalty for this senior citizen example
-
And these jerks in this news article are talking about a $25 penalty!

Obama wanted to kick butt for the Katrina disaster.
Obama wants to kick butt for the West Va. mine disaster.
Obama wants to kick butt for the BP Gulf drilling disaster.
Don’t hold your breath for Obama to kick butt for the Albert Pike disaster.
After all, government is the answer to all problems and can do no wrong!
-
And what’s with Obama’s Politics over Science with the Gulf drilling moratorium?
Obama’s political hacks, Carol Browner and friends, added their own spin paragraph to a report written for the White House by a selected team of scientists.
The scientists are now being trashed by the White House because they have “gone public” with their rejection of the Browner addition to their report, which they reject and had not seen until after it was published.

The Gulf Oil spill is NOT Obama’s Katrina. At least for Katrina, Bush tried!
Obama dallied over a month before taking this problem seriously. After 8 weeks he still has not waived the Jones Act of 1920 that is prohibiting foreign-owned ships and skimmers from being employed to help clean-up the oil! Pres. Bush waived the Jones Act immediately during Katrina.
Obama doesn’t want to annoy the Maritime Unions! This is his idea of doing everything possible to address the problem?

Alvin Greene had: no campaign, no money, no visible experience or history and no one vetted him to determine his qualifications for US Senate or for any public office. However he did have a current sex related charge pending against him that no one saw.
-
This is the new norm. The Tea Party is backing candidates with just such a non-resume. Here in Franklin County, Va. there is a new PAC devoted to supporting just these type candidates.
“Our PAC will be seeking to find candidates who have never run for public office before, but who share our conservative values and desire to serve our country in its time of need.” Sounds just like an Alvin Greene type candidate, doesn’t it!

-
This is all very interesting. During my professional life I hired a number of technicians, programmers and engineers. I never hired anyone whose claim to fame was that they had no education, experience, background or references that related to the job.
-
This is made even more problematic by an attitude that “the good guys” must avoid negative campaigning but there seems no bound on the “other guys” as was very evident in the recent 5th District Republican Primary in which six of the seven candidates were never vetted by anyone; we still don’t know who they really are!
-
Apparently the “good guys” have to adhere to The Socrates Test of Three:
-
In ancient Greece (469 - 399 BC), Socrates was widely lauded for his wisdom. One day the great philosopher came upon an acquaintance who ran up to him excitedly and said, "Socrates, do you know what I just heard about one of your students?"
-
"Wait a moment," Socrates replied. "Before you tell me I'd like you to pass a little test. It's called the Test of Three."
-
"Test of Three?"
-
"That's right,"Socrates continued "Before you talk to me about my student let's take a moment to test what you're going to say. The first test is Truth. Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about to tell me is true?"
-
No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it."

"All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's true or not. Now let's try the second test, the test of Goodness. Is what you are about to tell me about my student something good?"
-
"No, on the contrary..."
-
"So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him even though you're not certain it's true?"
-
The man shrugged, a little embarrassed.
-
Socrates continued. "You may still pass though, because there is a third test - the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell me about my student going to be useful to me?"
-
"No, not really..."
-
"Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither True nor Good nor even Useful, why tell it to me at all?"
-
The man was defeated and ashamed.
This is the reason Socrates was a great philosopher and held in such high esteem.
It also explains why he never found out that Plato was sleeping with his wife.
-
-
In Reflection:
Isn't this exactly how we elected Obama and Perriello into office?

The Roanoke Slant · More ClimateGate Doublespeak RSS Comment Feed Bookmark on del.icio.us

-
Roanoke Times, 6-10-10, Pg 13: Lies won’t set us free.
-
The RT article title is true – so why don’t you stop?
A convoluted paper by Ms. Oreskes of UC San Diego who’s claim to fame is “establishing a consensus” of global warming and climate change alarmists.
-
How do you establish a scientific consensus, and if you could, why would you?
Einstein, Galileo, Edison, Newton and the other outstanding scientific minds of history developed a hypothesis, developed the factual data to upgrade their hypothesis to a theory and where possible upgraded their theory to scientific fact.
They didn’t need snake-oil salesmen to sell their hypothesis, couched in a so-called consensus, and become personal millionaires by doing so.
-
If one were to go for consensus, why not go with the 30,000+ scientists and engineers who have signed the Petition Project and whose name and ID are identified on the web site. “The purpose of the Petition Project is to demonstrate that the claim of “settled science” and an overwhelming “consensus” in favor of the hypothesis of human-caused global warming and consequent climatological damage is wrong. No such consensus or settled science exists. As indicated by the petition text and signatory list, a very large number of American scientists reject this hypothesis.”
http://www.petitionproject.org/
-
Ms. Oreskes devotes much of her paper to cigarette smoking. I don’t remember 30,000 scientists and engineers signing a petition that smoking is OK. So what’s her point?
-
Of all the alarmist tripe and mis-&-disinformation the most egregious is the 1984 Doublespeak that “global warming” means temperature change that’s caused by mankind. For millions of years the earth’s climate has been changing and the temperature and atmospheric CO2 have gone through many large cycles.
At no time, including now, has CO2 or mankind caused significant temperature change or climate change!
-
It’s noteworthy that the Alarmists like Ms. Oreskes never participate in open debate with Skeptic scientists such as those at the Heartland Institute and at the recent
Fourth International Conference on Climate Change
Held May 16-18, 2010 in Chicago, Illinois
http://www.globalwarmingheartland.org/
Apparently it’s more comfortable to stay tucked away in their consensus groupie and have their liberal media peddle their elixir.
-
A commentary article by Cal Thomas, Roanoke Times, 6-9-10, Pg 17: Sinking climate change outlined the current demise of the “science behind manmade climate change” including the NY Times lamenting the lack of creditability of the alarmists and their misdirected consensus.

Roanoke Conservative · Congratulations to 5th dist. Republican nominee Robert Hurt RSS Comment Feed Bookmark on del.icio.us

Senator Robert Hurt won the July 8 Republican Primary in the 5th Congressional district of Virginia.
He will need our help to beat liberal Democrat Tom Perriello. Despite Perriello being wrong on the issues, the Democrats are giving him big money to try to keep Nancy Pelosi as head of the US Congress.
I encourage you to visit Senator Hurt's website, sign up for his email alerts and donate money!
http://www.roberthurtforcongress.com/

RPV Chairman Pat Mullins issued the following statement:

"I want to offer my heartfelt congratulations to Senator Robert Hurt for winning the Republican nomination in Virginia’s 5th Congressional District. I know that Robert will be an excellent Congressman, and will represent the 5th District well in the coming years," Mullins said. "But I also want to thank the other six candidates for their efforts."

"There were times when Virginia Republicans didn't have a very deep bench to work from — sometimes it wasn't a bench, it was a stool," Mullins joked. "But that's certainly not the case in the 5th District. When faced with disastrous leadership in Washington, D.C. and a Congressman who has blatantly voted against the will of the people time and time again, an unprecedented number of candidates answered the call to public service. To all of them, I offer my sincerest thanks."

"Any one of these men and women would have been better for the 5th District than Tom Perriello," Mullins said. "From his first day in office, Perriello has shown himself to be inseparable from Nancy Pelosi and her liberal agenda. Whether it was Obama's red-ink soaked budget, cap and trade, the GM bailout or the $1 trillion 'stimulus' we've borrowed from China and our grandchildren, Perriello has been there every step of the way, digging the hole deeper with every vote. He voted not once, but twice for the federal takeover of our healthcare system despite overwhelming opposition to it in his district."

"Now, the voters have spoken, and Republicans all across the 5th District will stand united behind Robert Hurt as he moves on to November, when we will finally pink slip Tom Perriello," he said. “The Republican Party of Virginia is looking forward to being a partner with Robert Hurt in the months ahead, pink slipping Perriello, and replacing Nancy Pelosi as Speaker.”

Virginia wind energy could become a reality if only the hot air and wind from Richmond and Washington and GoreLand would blow upon a wind-turbine.

Roanoke Times, 6-4-10, Pg 1 & 8: SCC takes wind from Appalachian’s sails
The Kaine-appointed SCC Commission rejected two wind farm purchase agreements because they were too costly for consumers.
Hello Commission Members! We all know that renewable energy is more costly than Virginia’s primary source of coal power.
However don’t we have a goal for all investor owned utilities to increase the percentage of renewable energy every year achieving 15% by 2025. Pray tell how that’s going to happen without increases in electric rates and development and installation of new generation and distribution facilities?

Roanoke Times, 4-9-10, Pg 9: Poor Mountain is rich in wind.
Since the passage of the Va Energy Plan in 2007, Va has taken a leadership role nationally to achieve energy independence.
Have you ever read such a pile of heifer-dust?
What leadership role? The only real Virginia renewable energy project is Highland and that’s been on hold since well before 2007 by the state SCC and government bureaucracy.
We will all indeed be poor from imported energy before Poor Mountain generates enough power to light the display you’re looking at.
-
Roanoke Times, 5-30-10, Pg Horiz 2: A U-turn on wind farms, by a Mr. Mills who lives on Poor Mountain and who comments: “It seems no one wants to be near these things, apparently for good reasons.”
Don’t worry Mr. Mills, based on the past and current track records, you and I will be history before any turbine blades rotate on Poor Mountain.

The fact is we cannot talk our way to energy independence and conversion to more renewable assets. We need leadership not talk and platitudes and not CO2 carbon credits, nor Cap&Tax.

A bite as in a nibble? No that’s not it!
ObamaCare costs are not a bite, they are a tsunami of rules, regulations and costs to individuals, taxpayers, employers and all levels of government!
-
The Virginia current Medicaid costs are equal to public school funding. The impacts of DOUBLING the recipients will more than double the demands on the taxpayers as costs escalate under ObamaCare.
Of course the liberal and Democrat answer is simple – just raise more taxes!
Obama, Pelosi, Reid and Perriello are all for that!
Then they all wonder why businesses are not expanding and hiring more people.
-
The reality of the ObamaCare requirement that adult-children up to 26 are to be included in the family healthcare package is now sinking in. efforts" by providing whatever resources a governor requests and then
writing big checks for the cleanup. Mr. Bush had to deal with a
Louisiana governor and a New Orleans mayor who were, by federal law, in
charge.
-
But BP's well was drilled in federal waters. Washington, not Louisiana,
is in charge. This is Mr. Obama's responsibility. He says his
administration has been prepared for the worst from the start. Mr.
Obama's failure to lead in cleaning up the spill could lead voters to
echo his (Obama's) complaint in Katrina's aftermath:
"I wish that the federal government had been up to the task."

Just more hope and change and hypocrisy we can believe in!

The Roanoke Slant · Obama’s National Guard to Border Two Per Mile RSS Comment Feed Bookmark on del.icio.us

Obama sending 1200 National Guard troops to Mexican border.
That’s 400 troops per shift (3 shifts per day).
There’s 700 miles of US-Mexican border
That’s two (count them if you can) 2 troopers per mile
Wow! Be scared illegal immigrants and smugglers!
Obama’s going to get you!

What a pathetic response to a major, serious and chronic problem.
And now Obama is challenging Arizona’s new law that mirrors US laws that Obama is not enforcing. Didn’t he take an oath to uphold the laws? Apparently not!

The last time the National Guard was sent to the border they were chased away from their post without firing a shot by Mexican drug and smuggling dealers with guns.
The Guard’s rules of engagement were:
If you see any Mexicans’ with guns – RUN!
How pathetic! Have we become the French army or what?
